Hello friends of One Acre Farm!
We hope all of you have fared well during Hurricane Beryl and in the aftermath of the storm. Just like many of you, the farm was hit very hard by the winds of Beryl. Extensive damage was sustained, including: -Tree fell onto the Elementary outdoor classroom -Front and back fences knocked down. -Early Childhood play equipment hit by a tree. -Roof is gone on our therapy horse Honey's stall. -Tree fell on top of the covered chicken, rabbit, and duck pens. Roof is gone. -Entire farm without power. Due to the damages, Farm School was cancelled for the week. The remaining activities of Kid’s Art & Play, Sensory Saturday and Storytime at the Farm for July will also be cancelled to allow time for repairs and rebuilds to be made. Farm School will resume Monday the 15th. We understand this may be an inconvenience to your family. We thank you for your understanding and support as we work through all that's needed to be able to have students and activities again. We had a handful of volunteers on Tuesday. In 9 hours, we had the tree on top of the classroom cut up and removed. Thank you Catherine, Jerry, Amy, John, Evan and Nicole. On Wednesday, thanks to Jessica, Brad, Nicole, Catherine and Jerry, we had the tree on top of the animals pens cut up and removed in another 9 hours. Thursday, Catherine was able to temporarily prop up the fallen fences. Now begins the slower process of repairs and rebuilding. One Acre Farm, a nonprofit, through Farm School, activities and autism therapy serves approximately 150 children a month. We rely on the donations of generous hearted people to fully run everything at the farm and to provide therapy scholarships for children with autism. |
Our goose does not lay golden eggs, so we need your help! Please consider donating.
In 2016, One Acre Farm established a 501c3 non-profit educational foundation. The goals of the educational foundation are to provide, through Strides Autism Program, educational, therapeutic and recreational activities for children with autism or other special needs and their families. Families with children who have special needs are often experiencing financial stress. Therefore, it is our desire to provide these programs for these families free of charge. Funds through donations and/or grants are used for the operating costs of providing Strides Autism Programs, purchase and maintenance of equipment, supplies, curriculum, training and other operating expenses.
One Acre Farm Educational Foundation, 501c3 non-profit, is supported by generous hearted people like you. There are many ways that you can give and be an integral part of our mission as we strive to provide educational, therapeutic and recreational activities for families of children with autism or other special needs like PTSD, trauma, learning challenges, anxiety, depression and other neuropsychiatric conditions. The clinically proven programs based on our certification in The Horse Boy Method and The Movement Method, utilize our horses and other small social animals, are held in an outdoor and natural ‘yes’ environment and encourage movement to activate the cerebellum and prefrontal cortex helping the kiddos to achieve fine and gross motor skills, gain emotional regulation, reasoning and so much more.
We never want financial stresses to hinder the incredible healing opportunities and therefore, all of our needs-- including animal feed and care, supplies and equipment, curriculum, training and handlers—come from donations and/or grants.
One Acre Farm/Strides is certified through The Horse Boy Foundation as "1 Star Apprentices and Mentors" of The Horse Boy Method and The Horse Boy Movement Method. From life skills to academics, Movement Method, how the brain wants to learn, is science backed approach for traditional schools, homeschools, higher education alike that show how movement helps build the brain, learn and break free. Movement Method programs have been offered since Fall 2016. Horse Boy Method (equine) programs have been offered since Spring 2017

Examples of Financial Needs
Farm School Scholoarship cost varies upon enrollment days
($1800/school year-$6250/school year) The Early Childhood Farm School Learning Pod and the Elementary Farm School Learning Pod are both inclusive of neurotypical children and children with autism. Farm School runs a typical Aug-May school year along with summer session. |
A yard of decomposed granite $100 We battle muddy conditions after a rain due to the sloppy clay soil. It can make it difficult for kiddos to walk around and absolutley impossible for wheelchairs or other wheeled equipment to be used. We need to upgrade our walkways to a solid surface of decomposed granite. The pictures show how much coverage we can get from just a half a yard. |
Horse Riding Arena Sand $8000
Arena sand is a comfortable footing for the horses while they are being used for therapy sessions. We have a large 60 ft x 80 ft area that we would like to create a proper arena area. This area would be used for training the horses, back riding for children with autism and as a general play area for all the children that come to activities. |
Covered Horse Arena $50,000
A covered area is important to provide shelter for all the activities from the Texas heat and rain. Especially for the activities for the families of children with autism. Being able to provide experiences for the kiddos in all types weather makes it more accessible for the families. Many families drive over 2 hours for sessions for their kiddos. We know how the weather changes here. They may start out from their home and all is clear and then when they arrive, it’s raining. These families deserve to have their time respected and opportunities for their children rain or shine. |

We are a small farm but it takes many hands to run and sustain it. Keeping the animals well cared for is probably the most important of tasks as they are a foundational part of Farm School and other activities. We are fortunate to have a crew of volunteers that not only help feed the animals, but also to spend time with them and love them. It takes a special kind of person to carry out the sometimes unsavory farm tasks. Caleb was that kind of special person. He was an integral part of keeping the animals well cared for. We are heavy hearted at the loss of Caleb. His infectious smile beamed light and his positive attitude exuded from him. To Caleb’s family and loved ones, we extend the deepest condolences to you in this very dark time. The family has asked in lieu of flowers to donate to Dora's Dawgs and Katz along with One Acre Farm Educational Foundation. You may donate by clicking the button below. We are honored to be deemed worthy by his family for their generosity and yours. |
