The teen years can be a time of gaining independence and learning responsibility. In the early years of the United States, daily life was agrarian for most families. Children and teens had farm chores that fostered responsibility, physical activity, problem solving, empathy, independence, work ethic and self-esteem. These experiences and skills are often now lost in modern urban lifestyles. At One Acre Farm, we help teens have these experiences and gain knowledge and skills related to home mini-farming.
TEEN TIME
At One Acre Farm, we believe that teens need to be outside and moving around, feeling the sun on their skin, breaking a sweat while working, experiencing the routines of care for animals, and being introduced to everyday farming skills. There is a great sense of accomplishment and intrinsic pride when hard work is done. Teens interested in animal husbandry will enjoy these sessions.
Every Thursday afternoon is our "Teen Time" program. Your teen will work along side Catherine and Nicole in the afternoon farm care learning the skills necessary to keep a small farm running. After demonstrating strong competency in various skills of level 1, your teen can be eligible to work other days as an intern and receive community service or volunteer hours. Also after completing level 1, your teen can be eligible to begin level 2 skills. After demonstrating strong competency in level 2 skills, your teen can be eligible to work other days as an intern and receive community service or volunteer hours. Like life on a working farm, these sessions take place rain or shine.
*Note: Participation in any activity requires the completion of payment, registration forms, waiver release, and medical release.
